Amelia, her husband, and her son all were affected by cista dublonis on March 6th, 1993. They were all on a safari hunt in Tanzania. The shown photo was taken only two hours before they came into contact with cista dublonis. Her husband had just shot a zebra; first he posed alone with the carcass, and then insisted on his wife posing with him. Their son was back in the camp awaiting there return.
Amelia and her husband were riding back to camp with their guide and two other hunters when Amelia started to breath heavily. Concerned they pulled over and made her put her head between her legs. When her breathing became normal again they continued on, planning on taking her back to the main camp 50 miles away to allow the doctor there to give her a physical. It would mean ending their safari a day early, but her husband was happy with his success during the recent hunt. However, their plans changed when they made it back to the camp. Their son, Jerold, was missing. He had complained of an upset stomach earlier in the day and stayed back alone to rest.
Jerold was found three days later crawling on the ground and making incoherent noises, in the meantime Amelia had had no other breathing problems. She noted in her journal that she felt the killing of the zebra had been wrong; before she had been an avid hunter. She also notes in her journal having dreams of making maps, being in maps, seeing maps in everyday objects, especially the ears of zebras. This dreams were to continue to this day.
Upon returning to the states Amelia and her husband tried to get their son professional help. Two weeks after his return to Wisconsin Jerold left the hospital and traveled to Florida. He has not spoken to his parents since. Devastated, Amelia quit her job at the local grocery store and began making maps. Often finding pictures of zebra ears and comparing them to existing maps to find a connection. Recently she has taken this even further. |
